With CX season nearing, I wanted to get the word out that the practices in Forest Park are on for this year. Rich P, who usually runs these, has a new job that conflicts with practice times. So Amy Strahan and I have volunteered to run Tuesdays, and Mark Stika & co will run Thursdays. These practices, as always, will be very informal, non-official, non-events. We’ll mark a course between 5 & 6pm, and start our non event ~6pm till darkish. The first few weeks will be more about dusting off the CX bike & skills, and getting new people out to try this crazy awesome two wheeled fun. We’ll add in hot laps toward the end of practice after a few weeks. Park in the Steinberg rink lot and go up the hill behind the concession stand building. You should see us riding about. We’ll start Sept 8th, the Tuesday after Labor Day. These are not clinics, but people are generally friendly and willing to help out so if you’re on the fence about trying CX, grab an old mtb or borrow a cross bike and come try it out!

Looking forward to CX season!

If there is rain this afternoon or the ground is moist, do you cancel? Thanks

Sorry, I just checked this. I will post here as well as the FB cx page in the future. Unless its muddy enough to damage the park we will practice. Tonight we stuck to the grassy areas and drier trails and it was fine. We'll post updates around 4pm when weather is questionable. Had 10 or12 people show tonight in the intermittent drizzle,  not bad for the first night. Good group and a good time.

Great course, cause, and turnout last night.  I counted 25 riders at once and probably some were elsewhere on the course.

Next Tuesday the 29th and the following Tuesday the 6th we will be having the unofficial Forest Park CX practices at a different location. Kenrick Seminary 5200 Glennon Dr 63119
Once you're in the gate follow the signs to Visitors parking or if that's full keep going to the fenced lot. We'll be right out in the front lawn near the barriers. We may even have a tree to put your stuff by!
Kenrick is in the process of building a 1.8 mile trail on their grounds and thought having a bunch of CX bikes burn in a line would be mutually beneficial. Steave L. (GORC) cut the trail and it's much more "Bubba" like than what we usually have at FOPO. If you only have time to make a few of these practices, try to make it the next few Tuesdays. Thursdays will still be in FOPO and are now featuring Hot Laps!
Hope to see a bunch of you out there!

We had a good turnout and a fun group at Kenrick last night. Steve filled a bunch of the ruts on the course & we marked or rerouted around most other obstacles. The course got faster as the night went on although the rain made the freshly cut sections very slick. We went clockwise.
We've gotten the ok to have practice here on Tuesdays for the rest of the season so Tuesday at Kenrick, Thursday at fopo until it gets too dark in the evening.
We've also gotten the ok to ride Kenrick pretty much anytime but keep in mind that it's open to walkers, runners, people meditating/praying (you'll pass stations of the cross) so do a sighting lap & take it a bit easy. The course will remain marked. Park in visitor parking or better yet Shrewsbury Comunity center backs up to Kenrick so parking there would be preferable off hours. Have fun!
