Seems convoluted especially in the beginning but if you know those streets, cool. I like this better. http://www.mapmyride...r-route-6298554

What can "we" do as a group to get the county to close trails when we get excessive rain? Went by GF today and there had to be 20+ horse trailers there. Every parking lot was full. They were having an event, I guess. I can only imagine the amount of damage that was done by that many of horses on soft/muddy trails. It makes me sick.

Scott, there's probably not much we can do because the parks are understaffed and so it's unlikely they can check out the park trail conditions and make the call. They don't have a precedent either, and it would certainly inconvenience a segment of their users who "didn't even know they could close the trails". It's a big step from here (no control over use when it's sloppy) to intelligent control and compliant users who call a hotline or check a website to know where they can ride or hike. Because many of the St. Charles trails systems are new and created by GORC who has probably educated the parks department about sustainability, and it seems they have a lot more money for their parks department, they are able to close trails.
It sure annoys me when a flowy trail becomes pock marked and rough to ride because of horse use when wet. But eventually it rides in, and I am not sure how much real trail "damage" is done by horses. It mainly seems to make the trail rough and no fun to ride. Pretty sure that with the 4-legged suspension, the horse riders never feel the difference.

There was a pretty good turnout for the non-UFD Dirty Spokes race early this spring (please don't look at the results, it was the worst race of my life where I had no excuse, no flats, minor mechanicals). As a series promoter for many years I often wondered how many race for the points. Probably the top 5 in each class consider the points at stake as a deciding factor among many factors? I still mostly keep track of how I'm doing in comparison to the guys in my class. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big proponent of the UFD, just saying, it's Castlewood. Who turns down a race at Castlewood? Can't remember a bad turnout there. I think the points matter more at "away" races.
