If was faster to run it.
However I am sure Dr Mark could have rode it faster, jumped it, or just did a better job of getting through it.
The video doesn't really show any of the course.......Most of the course was wide open and fast.....but the guy who setup the course thought we should run through the woods in a muddy creek bed. The entire mud dy creek part reminded me why I stopped racing mountain bikes........who in the **** wants to run through a creek? Anyways the rest was fine. It did lack a 2 way pit and didn't really have many corners and generally was really spread out.
The course has a lot of potential to be cool but was not setup that great and there was no real pageantry. But it was a cool event and it is suppose to be a 2 day race next year so with any luck when Mike lays out the Bubba Series they won't over lap and you guys can go out of town and see what CX is like in another city.
Speaking of Pageantry.......KC this weekend is suppose to be awesome and if you haven't register you have till Wednesday night to do so. If you buy a UCI license for the big boy race it is good for all of next year. You guys need to travel and see what other CX course are like.

Cool video.
As someone else who road the course, I saw two guys ahead of me try to ride up that dip. When we were riding in the B race, it was really, REALLY muddy and soft after a night of thunderstorms and rain. Both guys got about 2 feet up and just started sinking in, necessitating a complete stop. Maybe by the A race the ground had been a little more compacted and hardened--it certainly looked like it from the video. Also, the climb back up was a little steeper and taller than you might gather from the camera angle.
BTW, Josh--what would you have changed about the course? I'm kind of a novice to CX and I liked it. I assume you mean you would have preferred more turns out in the big grassy field? What are the features you A folks like in a course?

The venue for the race is awesome and has a ton of possiablities. When setting up the course I would have done a few things. 1) A 2 way pit. 2)No single track (this causes big bottle necks) 3) Used Stakes and tape to mark the course instead of flags (when corners are marked with flags people tend to make their own lines .......ignoring the flags) 4) Not ran us through a creek. 5) Made the course wrap back on itself more. As it was anybody watching the race only got to see about 10 secs of action each lap.
All and all it was a great race.

Don't they have rules against that?
There are guys complaining here a few weeks back that the course had to be minimum width and the result was the promoter changing the sections before the start.

UCI has minimum width rules. Not certain about USCF.

USCF Cyclocross Rule 5A4 "Over its full length, the course shall be a minimum of 3 meters wide and be well marked and protected. (exceptions to this rule may be requested through the executive director or his designee) (or Mike Weiss)

That's an interesting rule, it suprises me because it seems like a lot of cross courses have some single track on them. It has never bothered me to ride a little ST on the cross bike! BTW Butthead is totally right about going to KC this weekend. A friend and I went out there in Nov. and the courses were great. This weekend is just going to be bigger and better!

With any rule, interpretation is everything. If it's a ten foot wide section but there is clearly only one rideable line, is the rule met? I did a race in the Chicago series at Challenge Park in Joliet a couple of weeks ago that was at least 40% single track with three log jumps and a kind of half-pipe thing that was part of an extreme mountain bike course. It was fun but kind of scary on the cross bike.
