I am with Charter and my rate is going up from $35 to $52 and change. The cheapest / slowest speed they now offer is 30Mbps. I think this is fast enough for an office with 10 people.
Our home owner association signed up a 10 years long exclusive contract with Charter. We got some money out of it and even people with no Charter service are benefiting as we buy with it plants, pay lawn and pool care...When the dollar amount received is divided by number of Charter clients and by 10 years it is not much. Charter probably knows why they are doing it.
I am thinking switching to AT&T but I hesitate. Is it worth the hassle?
I wish there are more choices...
Internet providers?

Do you still have to pay the HOA for charter even if you're not using it?
We have at&t U-Verse for tv and internet and it isn't bad and haven't had many problems except for their DVR HDs going out TWICE losing hundreds of hours of stuff I was planning on watching while stuck on the trainer.
Basically, from my experience in tech support, if what you have works and you're satisfied, don't mess with it.

I had ATT DSL for 3 years and now I have had Charter for 2, my experiece with ATT was poor and Charter has been very good. ATT signal would come in and out making streaming video and large downloads nearly impossible, Charter has been much faster and consistent. ATT took 3 weeks to come install new service, Charter was here next day.
I have friends at work who say ATT Uverse is excellent as well, I wouldn't know. I also don't use charter for any service other than internet, my TV runs on bunny ears and Hulu.
Call Charter and tell them you are going to switch if the price goes up, most likely they will extend the price you are now getting another year or two.

No, we do not have to. We pay direct to Chater, ATT, Dish,....The thing is that our HOA took the contract money, I call it dividends, and is using it for common good (to purchase plants, lawn/pool service, manager fee). Meaning that people who never paid Charter are benefiting. This is not right IMO. I suggested our HOA to distribute the dividends among the residents who paid Charter in a fair way. They do not want to do it (coz they do not know how? are lazy?).

They used to care but not any more. They would not budge this time.
There are rather large changes at Charter and I wonder if the company on top of it all instructed not to do rate adjustments any more for people willing to switch.

I wonder what options will be here in 5-10 years. However our subdivision will not be able participate because our HOA locked us in exclusive 10 years contract with Charter. I think it is the same as if they would sign similar contract with a phone, utility provider, lawn/pool care. The decision was made solely by 3 board members and we learned about it after the fact. I even wonder if we could get more money by negotiating. They acted like they won a lottery but they do not understand the implication.

We could not ditch charter for u-verse fast enough. Customer service is fantastic and the actual product (tv, phone, Internet) is outstanding. Don't look back.

I have a two year contract with Charter for $32. I am not sure if you can get a contract offer but if you can it works out. Ask for the retention dept and keep escalating.
