Being already 81 years you wonder why the hell he has so much rage against cyclists. Hopefully He never gets to drive again.

for $25 you can join the Missouri Bicycle Federation, which does all sorts of advocacy for bikeped; a major benefit is the ability to report road ragers to a central database, they will track the license plate to flag repeat offenders, and send out a paper letter to the driver, along with a copy of the Missouri bicycle laws . . . (you need the full license plate number, they can't match partial plates, so practice memorizing plates on your commute, helps pass the time

On July 19th I was squeezed into a curb by a pickup truck driver and I was able to hold my line and made it through. Since the driver failed to run me into the curb, he abruptly swerved in front of me and slammed on his brakes. I plowed headlong into him at 15-18 mph and got beat up fairly well. The guy jumped out of his truck and came to where I was laying, grabbed my handlebars as if to throw the bike out of the way, I guess so he could stomp on me, and cursed me like a dog. Luckily I was still clipped in so he couldn't get to me. I came to my feet enraged and you should have seen the surprised look on the terrorist. Cape Girardeau police gave me a ticket for following too closely!!!! I will post a more detailed report here after I meet with my attorney this Friday.

That is awful! I am glad you are OK, That is called assault, with the intent to harm. I can't believe that you were ticketed. I'm no lawyer, but that probably won't help your case. These MO rednecks are worse than the TX rednecks I dealt with in Dallas. Sounds like he has some serious issues.

. . . it's adding insult to injury to get ticketed when you were the one on the ground getting injured. seems like police have a bias against cyclists so if there is any doubt, the call goes against the cyclist. I have to take comfort in the few cases in which the raging motorist was actually convicted, such as the "road rage doctor" in California . . .

It's nearly impossible when one's life is threatened, but it will probably help us as cyclists in these situations to keep our own anger as much under control as possible. think clearly, and think what will "play well" with the police and in court. if a cop sees me calm and in control, maybe they will be more likely to see it my way, one can only hope . . . .

The Following too Closely charge was dropped before my court date. There was a witness to the incident but so far she has been reluctant to come forward, so we will most likely have to subpoena her. We will file suit to recover my medical bills, damage to my bike, and pain and suffering for my injuries. It's going to be interesting.

Time to start carrying while riding your bike. It's only going to get worse out there.
