Hello all,

There is an awesome bike ride coming up in a week (August 4th). It's the Lupus WolfRide GranFondo (www.wolfride.com) sponsored by both Big Shark and RPM. It's a 56 or 112 mile ride. It's only $45 to sign up! The ride is to support those with Lupus. Many of you know my friend and the face of the WolfRide, Eric Humes. He participates in many of the rides and races around St. Louis (THF, Hub ride, Saturday Shark, TNW, etc). He is all too familiar with Lupus. Two years ago, he nearly lost his mom when her brian started to bleed as a result of Lupus. Against all odds, his mom survived, and he vowed to not stop fighting for this cause until we have a cure. I too have had my run in with this terrible disease. My wife has Lupus, and last year, she suffered from a stroke due to her Lupus. She had to use a walker and cane for months until she could gain the strength to walk by herself on her own two feet. So, I also have vowed to keep fighting for this cause. The Lupus Foundation America, Heartland Chapter has taken the same vow and fights right alongside our families. The work put into this ride, and the support of you who participate and donate, will help us reach a time where those like my wife and Eric's mother can live pain free. Please go to www.wolfride.com to learn more about the ride, register, get friends and family donating, and join us on August 4th for a great ride!

Thank you,

Aaron Jackson

Here, here.

The ride was a great ride last year (despite the heat) so that should be reason itself to ride.

However, this is a terrible, awful disease and the Lupus Foundation is totally worth supporting.  For all of you who would consider dropping $100 on a group ride, take your $100 and give it to the WolfRide.  $45 covers your cost and $55 goes to them.  If everyone I see racing or riding did this, the ride would be hugely successful.  Give it some thought, then go out and sign up!

I've done the Wolf Ride twice and it's a very well supported ride. One nice thing is that the route goes back to the start/finish at the half way point so that you can get fresh, cold water bottles, change jersey, etc. You can also decide to just do the 56 miler like I did in last year's heat.

Oh! If you do the full ride, you get to go up Cherry St / Cemetery Hill twice!

Turned out to be a good ride in spite of the weather conditions early!!! Great challenging course, nice hills, good climbs (need to work on those
!!!). The experience and camaraderie were out of this world!!! Completed this on a Scott CX Comp, might really need to look into a "true" road bike, and next year give the 112 miles a go!!! This is definitely one of many benefit rides that you'll not regret, nor soon forget!!!

I forgot your name but thanks for setting this up, and hopefully all your efforts are blessed !!!

Who ever dropped the water bottle in the front group I left it with the time keepers at the event.

That's Eric. If you ever run into him on the street, buy him a beverage of his choice. You'll be better off for the time you spend with him.

You guys are too kind.  Thanks again for the awesome pictures, Dan!  This ride means a lot to me and my family and all of those who are affected by Lupus. The event wouldn't be possible without you, the riders, who participate in it.  You guys inspire me by your willingness to roll out of bed early on a stormy Saturday morning to ride.  I was completely humbled by how many people came out to support the cause considering the weather forecast.  The best part is that we met our financial goal of $30,000, provided those that pledged to raise the $50 make good on their promise.

Next year will be even better!  Can't wait to see you all again!

Appreciatively,
Eric

Eric-

i had planned to ride, but when i saw all the lightning, I chickened out.  I don't mind doing a ride like this in rain, but the lightning...I want to become a crispy critter.  Glad it went well for you all.  I will plan again for next year.

John, I understand completely and don't blame you a bit.  We still have tshirts for sale on the website if you want in on a little piece of the action!

May I suggest changing the route some. There's some pretty rough roads on the current route. Maybe do something out on the flats like Levee Rd for part of the ride. The park in Old Valmeyer has water, bathrooms, a shelter all which would make for a good rest stop.
