Even a new chain will show about .25. The pins in a chain need a little wiggle room or the chain wouldn't flex which would make changing gears difficult.
Well then they ought to de-rate the calibration by 0.25 then! This is a tool to measure wear, not new pin tolerance!
You can bet when I get one, I'll immediately check the "wear" on my NEW chain to see!
