Neither.  The 200, sprints, scratch and points will more than likely happen on Saturday, then the kilo/500m TT's and pursuits will go down on the Sunday, plus Sunday will be the rain date.  The omnium is a very hard 2 day race on the national/international scene.  It would be a bear to do the day prior or after individual events.  And btw, Sahra Hammer just won the silver at the Olympics!  Looks like only chicas are getting hardware form London.

We did the Omnium in one day last year, and even threw in the classic miss and out for good measure

Watkins had a good shot in the sprints.  6th is not bad for being having a full time job and not having much funding.
Q: Do you really sprint with such reckless abandon that you need straps?
A: Yes.

Yes we did. We also completed it within only one day when it is supposed to run over two days by the rules. The reason it was crammed into a single day is one, it rained on day and races were postponed and two, there were only two classes of riders. This year has been at least twice as hectic and I can only make apologies about there only being individual state track championships.

Just thhinking out loud, bear with me here:
Now if there were a group of people that the responsibilities can be spread around so no one person is overburdened and those helping can race for just the $3.00 insurance then more can be done with track racing. Another problem is that running the track is in no way a profit generating endeavor. I plan to do my best for the end of this year and I plan to be involved in years to come but I will not be able to do so at the previous levels of involvenment that I have given in the past. This is more of a note about next year than anything else.

I'm more than willing to help out when I can next year.  My schedule can be terribly unpredictable though.

I can help out once a month.  I think a lot of the track diehards are willing as well.  Maybe a volunteer signup sheet at the beginning of the season?  Exchange phone numbers and get someone else to cover if can't make it at the last minute.  bh

I am very willing to step up and take more of an organizing role in things for next year.

Just wanted to clarify the schedule for this--what's listed on stlbiking.com is for the state championships to be held next Thursday. I know there was talk of doing it on September 8-9. What's the final verdict there? Thanks!

Sorry if the calendar scheduling has been rather hit-or-miss.
I try to only post what I know to be true because doing extra work for nothing makes me cranky.  :)

The Race Director told me 8-9 September are the true dates for the State Championships

The permit process is in the works but I do admit I got a late start on it. I am doing all I can to hold the MIssouri State Track Championships on Sept 8th and 9th. I am also trying to hold an omnium and individual events all on the same program.

Also we will have practice nights on the next two Thursdays, no matter how busy I am with the Gateway Cup and the upcoming cyclocross season.

Are all the sprint events or omnium events going to be held first each day?  Just trying to get an idea if it's worth trying to go before work on Saturday.

DanW,

This year the States are a combined omnium and individual set of events. To be true to the omnium if contested I believe you must start all 6 parts or races.
