Hello all,

My crew and myself decided to take a year off in 2013.  We have had a blast putting the race on for the last 6 years but because of my busy predicted 2013 I will not be able to put it on next year.

We are planning on bringing it back in 2014.

Take care and happy racing!

Todd

Thanks Todd for the heads up and thanks for letting us know you will be back. Although I will miss your race it is a bit exciting thinking we will have a new state RR for next year. Whoooooo will it beeee?

Maybe this will be an opportunity to resurect the Dogwood road race?  I remember that race being the state road championship course in 1984 and 1985....at least there would be an available date on the calendar more favorable than late March.....

We are looking to maybe get the Dogwood race going again and serving as the State Championships.  I talked with a few members of the club the other day and they seemed interested in getting it going again too.  We are hoping for a good turnout at the Springfield Crit the 29th of this month.  That could make or break us putting the Dogwood back on.  There would be course changes to suit a little shorter mileage for the 5's not doing the whole loop and the 1 2's using the cut through to put them down to 80 or so miles from 106.

For those of us who were a bit too young in 1984 - 1985 for racing, what are the basics about the Dogwood Race? In what part of the state was it held? What time of year? Terrain of the course?...etc...just curious...

Thanks.

The Dogwood RR has been held more recently than the 80's. It was last scheduled in 2010 but canceled due to weather.

Thanks for the information, Mark. I was just joking around about the reference to the 80's...I've heard people reference that race and seen it referenced in forum posts from time to time. It seems like a race people really liked, so I was just wondering about it.

Here is a old and crappy video of one of the bigger climbs this includes the KOM.  Here is the map my ride chart of it. http://www.mapmyride...yville/20921996.  It is a great race lots of fun and very cool scenery.  I hope that we can have it next year.  We used to put it on in March but if it were to serve as the State Champs we could take that slot.  The first 6-7 miles are very decieving you think it is going to be flat but then lots of punchy climbs before you make the first right turn.  This would be a great course for the state championships!  Hope this gives you a little more detail.

That's usually me jumping in.  The race has special meaning for me because I started out racing in Springfield in the 1980's.  I was a founding member of Ozark Cycling Club and was responsible for modifying the first couse to the what was used for the State Championships back  in 1984 and '85.  I had been away from MO for 22 years and moved back in 2008 and have been really excited to do the race again on it's current course.....only to have it get snowed out in both 2009 and 2010, and not held in 2011..... :(

Dogwood looks like it would be fun to do! Is there anything in the works to adding some more road races to the schedule next year? Maybe a return of Babler Circuit race or Chesterfield/Eureka area would be excellent.

Thanks for the information...it sounds like a great race. I heartily second the sentiment for more road races. Every time I drive through Missouri's rolling rural roads, I wish there were more road races on the calendar...Hope bringing this one back works out...my two cents, keep the distances long :) .
