In the past there were people doing the races on CX bikes. Due too the creek crossing and a couple other obstacles, it was generally not a choice that would keep one competitive, but would be good for the skills for sure.
But the course is in a different part of the park this year....might be a little better for a cross bike? Only one way too find out!

"B" race back then had mtb trains/pacelines of 5-6 riders rolling at 25-27mph.
I did one on a CX bike and it is certainly something that can be done but it was brutal on my wrists/elbows compared to a CX race due to the higher speeds and needing to run the tires a higher psi. Hitting roots, etc.. at normal cx speeds and tire pressures is ok - hitting them at almost 30 practically guarantees a pinch flat unless the tire pressure is high enough to take it - hitting them at that speed with the higher tire pressure is pretty brutal.
I'd say bunny hop the rougher stuff but if memory serves, on the dusty nights it was hard to see anything below about knee level so you hit a lot of stuff "blind"
I would not say don't do it on a CX bike, especially if you don't have a mountain bike, it will still be fun - I would just say there are a few unique circumstances to at least take into account and be ready for if you go the CX bike route.

You will lose time in sections on a CX bike, but on others sections it should more than even out.

Good question. If you are over 18, and you pre-registered, you do not need a waiver. Only a minor's guardian (Ben Banet) and day-of are required to sign forms on site. This is as it was explained to me by James Nelson.

If you preregistered online and over 18 then your virtual signature of the waiver is acceptable by USA Cycling. Just show up, get your race number and you are off to the races. One of the pluses of using the online registration through USA Cycling.
If you are under 18 then USA Cycling still requires a wet signature by a parent or guardian each week. Those requiring a signature (ie-Jrs) should have their waivers already filled out and stapled to their race number.

3 routes to a signed waiver
- register online at USACycling
- pre-fill and print out a release form and bring it with you when you register on-site
- sign a release form at on-site registration

And to be clear, you only need to sign a form for each week if you sign up in person each week. Like they do for Tuesday Worlds which is all done by registering in person. If you are preregistered you are all set for showing up and racing each week because by registering online you have e-signed your waiver and USA Cycling approves it.
Text:
Q: Will USA Cycling accept an electronic signature for event waivers?
A: USA Cycling will only accept electronic signatures for event waivers for events using USA Cycling Online Registration. Riders under the age of 18 (19 in Alabama) will still be required to execute an on-site “wet” signature on waivers.
