I talked to Tyler (Mr. Scooter) and we'd like to find out how much interest there is in running some Keirin events? I'm interested in taking my moto back out on the track as a pacer (one helluva pacer compared to the typical track machines). We'd probably need to do some low-speed practice sessions on a weekend some time to get comfortable with the setup, speeds, track conditions, etc.

Let us know!

Marjin,

I have a lot of motorpacing experience at other tracks and keirin experience as well, and I have to say IMO that there is no way we could do any top speed work on Penrose, 65k+ would be too insane, almost crashed myself hitting 62 yesterday!  I know that we could run a Keirin with a little practice  from the pacer.  The speeds for the pacer really aren't that high.  It would be 6 laps long, 6 to 9 riders starting at the 1/2 lap mark on the finishing straight,  the motor would come by in the lane at around *at a relatively low speed* (15-20mph), just before it reaches the riders the gun goes off and the riders all get a shove and try to get a good position behind the pacer, pace would increase up to 25 around the half lap mark and gradually increase up to 28-30mph.  The motor pulls off on to the apron with 2 Laps to go on the home stretch peaking up to about 31mph or so.  Then the race is on.  It wouldn't be any different than when we do a 5-8 lap scratch top speed wise.

EDIT:  My speed were a bit off, fixed 'em per USAC/UCI rules.  We could modify given the current condition of our track 1.5 laps instead of 2 for the sake of the action.

Q: Do you really sprint with such reckless abandon that you need straps?
A: Yes.

Also, Nick Chevalley has suggested he would be capable of doing the pacing with his scooter.  He is Australian and therefore trustworthy.

I'm thinking "Penrose 50th Birthday Keirin!"

31mph is only 49kph  to go 12.4 you need to ride an average of around 58k.  We won't be "motorpacing" we'll just be doing a keirin!

**** a hemi! When you're creating 1600+ watts by yourself you'll know the hemi is just compensation for something thats lacking.

Won't he need retraining to drive on the proper side of the track and all?

1600 watts = 2.145 hp.  If stickers even add 1 hp on a car, I should be investing in a few to be Fast and Furriest on the bike.
