The good news is that there is little chance of rain today. But you can sure plan on it being warm and rather breezy all day. Please bring plenty to drink. It is going to be another great day for track racing.

I am excited about this week’s racing. I am planning on using all three of the junior bikes. If so I would like to insert some short junior-only events. The schedule for this week like all weeks may be changed. I am even toying with letting the A’s pick what they want to run for their third round and perhaps a handicap for the rest after that, we’ll see. I like to think of it as more of being adaptive than wishy-washy.

There are some new kinds of races that I have been reading about coming from the Dick Lane Velodrome web site. I would like to run some during our Thursday nights. As always I am open to all rider’s suggestions for each night’s events. Both look interesting.

Here are the two events new to me.

Win and In
The ‘Win and In’ race is held over 15 laps. Sprints are held every 3 laps, (for 5 total) and the winner of each of those sprints "qualifies" for the final sprint. Once the 15-lap portion of the race is completed and we have our 5 qualifiers, the rest of the field will leave the track and the qualifiers will receive 3 laps to go for the final sprint. Already qualified riders may win more sprints to race the finale against less competitors, in which case the results of the sprint at the end of the 15 lap regular race portion will determine the final places to score points towards the nights omnium.

Split-Scratch
The split scratch will be a combination of a points race and a scratch race. There will be a mid-race sprint that will score points 4 places deep, 5,3,2,1. There will then be a final sprint which will score points 6 places deep, 9,7,5,3,2,1. Highest total points scored wins the race. Scratch race rules apply for laps gained/lost, tie-break is the results of the final sprint, (there are no laps given in the instructions but their schedule lists this event for 20 or so laps).

Anyway lets hope that there is a little less sweeping this week.
