I am toying with the idea of commuting to work a couple days a week, The miles aren't what bother me, it is the rough side of the river I have to cross and the lack of bike trails that cut through St. Clair rather than swing up to Madison that I am not a fan about.  Any ideas?

Metrolink. You could get off at the Fairview Heights, Memorial, or Swansea stations. However you'd still be on busy roads one way or the other. You could take Frank Scott Road from Memorial station that would get you close to Fairview Heights.

I used to commute to the south grand area from off of Bunkum Rd. I travelled on Bunkum, Black Lane Collinsville Rd (through downtown East St Louis) and across the Eads Bridge. The worst problems I had was drivers giving me grief when nearing Collinsville, IL. I normally rode between 6-8 in the morning and 3-6 at night. it's not that bad.

I live in south grand, and am headed to the office park across the highway from the mall.  So riding that stretch of Collinsville road through East St. wasn't too ominous?

I've used metro several times  - sometimes i went north on 157  other times used parallel roads through caseyville - I want to try bunkham as well -so it is not bad eh?

My destination was MCT - going through old Caseyville and ending up on "black" is the best I think....

Not too bad at all. Entertaining sometimes, but never anything even resembling a close call. You will see some characters on the east side of I-64 on Collinsville Rd.

From Bunkum Rd., take Pleasant Ridge Rd North(ish) to E. O'fallon Dr.  Right on E. O'fallon Dr. to 159.  That puts you about a 1/2 mile to Fountains Pkwy and Salem Pl.
