Just got home from Bone Bender and I have to say Chris Locke is living a charmed life. Anyone following all the storm systems that have been tracking north would have thought that there was no way Lawrence wouldn't get hammered with rain. I swear the T storms just kept tracking right on the west border of Clinton Lake and heading north. They finally got a trace of rain this morning between 7:00 and 8:00 and it was just enough to make the first lap interesting but the trails were awesome on lap 2 and 3. I had almost zero mud on my bike when I loaded it into my van.
Congrats to Mike Best who edged Tig Lamb for the 3 hour championship. Saw lots of familiar faces from St. Louie crowd at BB including one of my favs, Pete "Sir Dude" the free spirit leader of the world.
Another great event in the books! BTW-Doug Chambers, who will be promoting the KS Fat Tire Festival at Wilson Lake, informed the racers before the start that they will contest the Marathon on Saturday afternoon and then Cross Country on Sunday. If your fit and want to race 2 days in a row, there you go. He also told us that he has added a Pro/Open class for anyone that wants to throw down and the purse is $1000. I guess if you think your fast, here is your chance.
Wilson Lake is a trail system that is just 5 miles off 1-70 just about smack dab in the middle of KS. The trails are epic and will remind you of Fruita, Moab, and they are on the way to Colorado. If you are looking for a road trip, here you go. Ask Bob Arnold about these trails. He raced them the past couple of years with very good results.

Thanks Pappy! If I'm not mistaken, you were on the top step of the podium of racers with more "experience," if you will. So congrats are in order there too? Pretty fast times to for such a technical course.
Big thank you to Chris Locke and his crew for putting on a very well organized race, on a killer course. Its not often we get to race on a course with 12 miles of pure single track bliss. It was my first trip to Clinton Lake and the Bone Bender, but wont be my last.

Great job Mike and Doug. And yes I have rode the Wilson Lake course a bunch on my trips out to middle Kansas. It is absolutely amazing how unique that area is and how much climbing there is. It is absolutely freaky how wild that place is once you cross that ridge just a mile or so north of Highway 70.
