Just put on a new rear wheel. Wore out my old Krysium elite after .6k miles. Put on a new one and my first ride was nice, no clicking sounds when I hammered or climbed hills. After my second ride, I'm getting clicking sounds from my wheel. Is this normal from the flex of the wheel? Or is there an adjustment?Spokes are all good at the right tension. Btw, put on a newer version of the same wheel.

I rode Ksyriums for a lot more than 6k miles and didn't come close to wearing them out. They seldom made any noise at all.

But I also rode a time or two with a guy much larger than I am. He could really mash the pedals. His Ksyriums popped and pinged constantly. He said that's just the way the were, that they'd always made noise like that.

Are you like that guy?

When bicycles make abnormal noises like creaks or clicks in most cases it means something is not right with the bike. In most cases is is something loose, something worn or both.

Are you using the Mavic skewers and are they tight enough? They need to be a little tighter than others I've used. If the unwanted noises continue try to get someone with more experience with Mavic's products to listen to this wheel when it is acting up and noisy.

@swikles

It is just a little bit harder to get in trouble.........

    .........for what I do not say.

I've had that happen a lot on front wheels. Any little skewer (physically small), including Mavic's, seems to up the likelihood. This kind of click doesn't sound like it's coming from the spokes though. I think hub or headset when I hear it. Or I used to until an excellent mechanic set me straight on the skewer thing.

I have heard of clicking coming from the spokes where they cross and touch, supposedly this can be fixed by greasing the intersection of the spokes.

My first question is sort of obvious.  Are you sure it's the wheel?  I had a noise that I once thought was from my wheels and it turned out to be my BB/Crank interface.  If you are fairly certain it's the wheels, weight could very well be the culprit and no amount of skewer tightness will fix it...at least for an extended period of time.  I'm 6'3" and a few years ago normally ran between 255-265lbs in "full kit" (that's for you CT).  Out of the saddle my front wheel (Handbuit DT Swiss 240 hub, 3x, 32h laced to Deep V's at the time) would creak on any sort of out of the saddle efforts.  I tried the skewer tightness suggestion and it did indeed help for a ride, but then would reappear on the next ride.  I'd pull over, reset the hub in the dropouts and retighten and it would go away.  Now I'm down to 225-235 depending on the season and I never hear that noise...the only difference being I re-laced both wheels in the same configuration but using DT Swiss Deep Section rims.
46.9% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

Clicking can also be from skewers being too tight. Being a big gear masher myself, there's always something clicking.

Mavic did have an issue at one point with Open Pro rims clicking from a bad weld I believe.  Not sure if it could be the same issue as the ksyriums use a different rim.  I dumped my open pros for DT rims and have been click free since.

Problem fixed. It was not the wheel. I just need to clean and oil the chain after every ride. Who would have thought. Got a new pair of wheels anyway.
