...

I also noticed last night that in that track thread someone named nomoretickets had posted a pretty tacky photo of a Downs syndrome kid winning a race and thinking it was funny with a cruel remark on it - and today it was removed - good!

You really going to get hung up about a funny meme? Really? It's a photo with a witty pun regarding the idiocy of arguing on the internet. You know what? It is funny. It's also one of the oldest and most commonly known memes on the interwebz. Don't take stuff so seriously. There was nothing "cruel" about it, and if you got so hung up on the photo, and not the actual statement and it's intent, then I can only advise you to double your dose of Xanax.

It is cruel and tasteless.

I hope in time you come to understand why that is so.

I see nomoretickets thinks using a picture of a child with Downs syndrome is "a funny meme;"
So I guess he would regard a poster of a lynching in a similar light?

I agree with rockhound, and especially with my having personal experience with a late relative having Downs.  It is not a condition for which others can just play with and use as the butt of a joke.
Obviously nomoretickets has no experience with this or similar conditions; he is fortunate.

As an individual with mild autistic characteristics, and the brother of some one with severe childhood bipolar disorder, I really don't think either of you have the first right to say what experience or considerations I may or may not have. Pardon my French, but.... No, actually I won't go there, but I think you can use your ever so politically correct and sensitive imaginations to fill in the blank. It's one thing to say you disagree with my sense of humor, but to personally degrade me with snide unqualified statements as to my life and experiences is just plain ignorant.

And for the record, yes, if there were a funny photo regarding a lynching, or any other of a number of sensitive subjects that was truly funny and not destructive towards it's content (no examples come to mind, but that's why I don't write memes), I would laugh. Why? Because while strongly feeling that racism and biases of all sorts are detestable, I poses a level of self awareness which allows me to laugh at what is instinctually amusing, while also acknowledging that there is a controversial and socially unacceptable element to it. The only difference between me and you is I don't lie to myself about this. Let me guess, now I am a racist and have no experience with people of other races or cultures? Just another exhample of what you do not know about me, or my life, and exactly why you should keep your mouth shut about your opinions on your quest to show just how righteous you are on the Internet forums by belittling someone who disagrees with you on a PIECE OF COMEDIC PHOTO EDITING.

You can say my sense of humor is not your cup of tea and thats fine, because at the end of the day, it is merely my own opinion that something is funny. I only ask that you respect my opinion, and refrain from lambasting me, unprovoked, on an unrelated thread, and then personally insulting and degrading my own life and experiences. KGB, you say I'm fortunte? You do not know the first damn thing about me, my family, or the half of the pain, suffering, and difficulty me, my sister, and my whole family live with. F*** this, I'm out.

A) Wow; what a negative post!  I'm making with the frowny face right now; can you tell?

B) I don't feel they should be banned...and I have had my run-ins with both.  I have also engaged in intelligent conversation with "Diogenes" and can appreciate that fact.  CT oft makes valid points smothered in brutal, uninspired delivery, but so what?  Regardless of all this, we cannot simply banish those with whom we disagree.  It is pretty easy to ignore them and anyone else we encounter who displeases us if we choose.  This is not Whoville.  I hate to say "HTFU", but in the grand scheme of things Diogenes and CT as an "issue" is just not that big of a deal; they are entitled to their opinions just like everyone else.  My 2 cents.

Agreed.  Again, to me it's scary looking at the poll results to see how many actually voted for banishment.

Since TylerBick referenced it in his post above, I went over the the track forum (a forum I've never been in) and checked out the incident in the "Keirin" post.  I don't have a dog in the hunt, but it seems TB instigated the entire argument with CT and Diogenes.  Somehow I doubt that the two of them would have felt the need to interject their opinions in the Motor-pacing thread had TB not called them out in that post.

Agreed; I did the same and was immediately disappointed...but at least now I know about motor-pacing at the track, which seems pretty cool.

This is a really strange thread I think. I have never really seen anything that would warrant removal of these two. They can be tough but isn't that just the real world? If you don't like what they have to say you can always move to the next comment.

I asked about motor pacing at the track a couple years ago but never got around to doing it. Now I do mine down in Columbia IL with a friend.

Tyler- Poll is priceless! The sheer fact that an overwhelming number of people do not want Diogenes and/or myself banned should tell you something. If you don't like what I post, put on your big boy pants and simply ignore it. Same goes for what D posts. Actually, you might want to put on your bigger boy pants since many of D's posts are much wittier than anything I could ever write. A quick question for you, however. What about everyone else on this board who uses a screen name? Should everyone be required to give their actual name just because they post something that gets you all lathered up? Suddenly there might be a lot of John & Jane Doe names popping up. I can see the listing of people logged in now: John Doe, John Dough, Jane Doe2, Jane Do, etc. Have a nice day, sweetie. CT PS Maybe contact Mark and see if he can fix the title of your poll. It should say "Lose..." not "Loose..."

Edited to correct my spelling error, as pointed out by tarmac72.  I bet that's not his/her real name...

I am red faced over that one.  Thanks for catching my error.  Kind of like the pot calling the kettle black on that one, 'eh?  I hate typing on my phone, by the way.

Meh, you catch more flies with honey, not vinegar.  Life is too short and we all take ourselves a little too seriously at times.  Forgiveness is a blessing.

nomoretickets, I can almost understand your post modern take on humor to a point.  I find things funny that most find deplorable because of life experiences and my familiarity with them, but that doesn't make them ok in a public setting among strangers.  I stand by my post.
