My wife recently purchased a motor scooter due to the rising cost of petrol.  I've been driving it to work recently, and on Thursday morning Devin and I took it out to Penrose to experiment w/ some Motorpacing.  After a few test laps it seemed do-able, and we quickly got the hang of keeping the scooter on the track (in a straight line/oval) at speed.

I think, that with a little more practice, and possibly a rigged up "roller" for the back of the scooter to keep a bike from getting too close, we could have regular Keirin races here in STL.

As much as I'd love to race a Keirin here, I'm not sure about the Insurance logistics of letting someone else drive the scooter for this purpose.  Also, I think my wife would revoke my scooter privileges if I let someone else drive it.  ;) That being said, I'd be more than happy to volunteer to drive "the derney".

Thoughts?

Diogenes and Caster Troy,  if you read this, and you feel like commenting, I don't care.  You don't race at the track.  So keep your fat, ugly (virtual) mouths shut.  I'll bet you'd never say any of the crap you say online in person because you know you'd get your ass kicked.

It's too bad I had to say that, but I stand behind it.

Judas H. Priest!
What the heck occasioned this outburst?  Finally discovered the size 32 Jockeys are way too small?

Your post seemed pretty innocuous and actually helpful to add another element to that discipline.  It could attract some publicity, and I'd think a scooter dealer would be interested in the attention as well.

While tempted to reply in a similar vein to your crude screed, I will only say that your verbiage is juvenile.

P.S.  What is "petrol?"

Tyler my dad has motor pacing experience and is a licensed motorcycle operator...  either way, since you have lots of race experience I know its doable!
Q: Do you really sprint with such reckless abandon that you need straps?
A: Yes.

I can't speak for D, he does a fine job on his own.  Tyler, you don't know me from Adam.  I can handle myself just fine.  I'm even more outspoken when dealing with people face to face.  Online, I relax.

Everybody is a tough as nails when the anonymous nature of the internet affords them the courage to say whatever they like with no accountability.  Tyler's a loose cannon, ye be warned, he's even got the balls to say what neighborhood he lives in... a little research on this would yield finding his name, where he worked, etc. etc.  Certainly something could be said for the character of a person who says what they like without hiding their identity and CERTAINLY something could be said about the character of those who do the opposite.  I'm not sure it was the best call to mention the both of you in a post about something like being able to facilitate the keirin here on Penrose, but you can't really blame him since most of ya'll be trolling so damn hard.

OK - the red flag has been waved.
The OP's puerile little tirade had absolutely nothing to do with the topic nor was it in ANY response to anything posted by either Caster Troy or myself on this topic - or even anything negative ever posted about track events by either of us (for myself for sure and possibly for CT).
I thought his scooter idea for an additional event was a good idea, and so stated thus.

I did giggle a tad over his use of "petrol," though...

As to identity, a little more research might reveal...

I am related to the little lad who made the remark about the Emperor's new clothes.

Now - there was a saying we had in the Army long ago, when talking to a new PVT E-2 who was expounding on his Army savvy:
"Sonny, I've got more time in the chow line than you have in the Army."
Period.

its funny watching individuals chastise others for use of non-conventional terminology while actively google-thesaursusing fancy words to facilitate a seemingly more sophisticated response.

And if you no longer go for a gap that exists, you're no longer a racing driver, because we are competing. The PP might be surprised to learn that in some (no doubt unfamiliar) circles, big words are used in ordinary discourse to convey a meaning - without resorting to a tome (book).
And in many circles, the beginning word of a sentence is capitalized and apostrophes are used in contractions.
I did like his newly-coined verb for a word search, while eschewing the hyphenization.

Exactly the response I expected.  Two punk-ass busters replying to a thread neither had any business reading in the first place.  When was the last time either of you sad, sorry pricks raced at a velodrome?  Ever?  Post your USAC licence #'s, let's have a look!  Do you even have a USAC #?  Get your asses off your computers and go ride a goddamn bike.  This isn't stlinternetshitdisturber.com, it's stlbiking.com.  Neither of you participate in the actual St. Louis cycling community, let alone, the St. Louis racing community, ESPECIALLY the St. Louis TRACK racing community, so get the hell out of our online community and stirring up shit  just for the sake of it.  Quit bothering people who are talking about stuff that doesn't affect you.  Don't spit into the wind.  I might just be ready for another assault conviction.  Or maybe you should just go for a ride around Tower Grove park after dark, someone else from my neighborhood might just do us all a favor and pick on the right cyclist for a change.

Mark, any way to only allow users with USAC licenses use the bike "racing" forum?

Just calling out those who need to be called out, and possibly permanently censored/banned.

Your patterns of sticking your two cents where it doesn't belong/isn't welcome is becoming tiresome.  Most recently, for example, like in the thread where you each call for the Lindenwood cycling team to be burned at the stake.  That is what occasioned my post-salutation tirade.  Time and time again, you ruin what would otherwise be constructive conversation between people who actually interact with one-another outside of this digital forum. Go waste your time talking shit in some online political forum or commenting on news stories on MSNBC.   Leave us alone, we don't want you here.

welcome to the interwebz, its a weird place

also, your use of tome, while technically acceptable, most likely does not accurately convey your intended meaning. unless of course you get all your fancy words from Descartes' meditations or some other equally prolific writer.

To paraphrase the OP's earlier entreaty:  "Mark, any way to only allow adults who don't use gutter language to use the bike "racing" forum?"

I will drop to your level for a moment (but certainly not your vernacular!):
"Look, Jerk - you have absolutely no idea my experience or background, so you are hardly qualified to call me out on contributions - let alone use gutter language in your replies."

As to the Lindenwood incident - reread the thread; there were helpful comments offered as well as, of course, comments on the "youthful" indiscretions of (presumably) spectators.  The comment on the team itself was referring to them as "student-athletes" (if the group considers that a pejorative, it is because of its thin skin).

You started this tirade.
You used language more fit for Billingsgate - or occupants of Charon's ferry.
You are the one who issued a physical threat - however toothless.

You started the thread with a perfectly valid point and proceeded to diminish it with a final paragraph; there was absolutely no reason to add that, as it anticipated a response to a hardly controversial topic.
You ignored my praise for the original thought.

As far as my "two cents where it [sic] doesn't [sic] belong/isn't welcome..." is concerned - I believe all forums, save those which are club-related and locked, are open to the entire community -n'est-ce pas?
