Things look a little different around here now.

Here's a couple of interesting new bits...
  • From what they tell me we have a way to connect using facebook and twitter and ... I'm looking into it. This might be the solution I've been waiting for, the one that enables people to log in to the *whole* site and not just the forum. Stay tuned.
  • User Agent detection - that means the forum software is smart enough to adjust for various screen sizes. That was the issue which precipitated the upgrade. So far, and from what I can tell, it looks like the break lapped the field on this one.
And more. As I explore and learn what's new - so many changes, and many of the features seem to be very well hidden - I'll roll them out. Or put up a poll. Or whatever.

If you see anything amiss, or you've seen something on another board that's not here, let me know. I'll see what I can do. Please be patient though. I'm a Drupal expert. I don't speak Invision very well.

Definitely took it to the next level. More goodies I see. The colors seem just fine to me at the moment. Is this hosted through Invision or at stlbiking? You mentioned somebody would do the upgrade, just curious how is hosted. Looking at the options for gorc.

GORC would be much more user friendly on a phone if it went to an IP Board.

i know but working (after work at that) for free means it's a slow process and i like riding bikes (and design/build trail), too. Someday it will come to fruition along with an upgraded site. Getting bids, attempting to find money, too. It's coming by the end of the year, hopefully.

I'll have to skin/brand the new board so we don't confuse where you're at...

Greensfelder workday coming up, see ya there?

STLBiking is not hosted at IPBoard. I considered it but rejected the idea for various reasons, not the least of which is the baggage the site carries from previous instances.

If you've looked into it you know the board is fairly easy to skin. I've considered doing this too, but I already have enough support requests to deal with. Maybe I'll spend some time investigating it again and buy a theme/skin. I can tweak styling too, just to experiment. The problem is finding the time. As Matt can attest, it's pretty hard to find time to add and enhance when you're running full speed everywhere else.

In looking through the backend last night I discovered this board now comes with a mobile skin. If you're looking at it on a screen so small the standard skin won't accommodate just scroll all the way to the bottom and click the Change Theme link.

It is very different on the phone.  Looks good except for the new content/messenger/etc. button in the top right corner, but the rest of it makes up for the small quirk.  Liking it.

Muddy, when is the workday.  Are kids welcome (6yr old)?

Workday is Feb. 25, saturday, 9-1, lunch+ride afterward (weather permitting)

If i remember correctly, kids under 13 can't be working on the trail according to stl county. post the question on the gorc message board and will probably get a response from someone who  know more than I do.

so far, so good on iphone mobile, looks good. only quirk is if click right-hand four-square button thing before page finished loading, the button will never work again even when the page loads - must then refresh. only bug i've noticed.

damn internet, like a bottom bracket standard, or lack thereof...

The great thing about standards is there are so many to choose from

Mark

I can't seem to mark the board as read which is a small option at the bottom of the forum page.

Do you mean "Mark Community Read"?
I have that link, and when I pick it I get two options:
  • Forums
  • Mark all as Read
I clicked the "Mark all.." link and it worked as expected. All the posts still show, but none of them show as having unread content.

BTW I'm liking this a lot more now that I'm finding out little things. Did you notice you get a popup of a person's profile when you hover their name? Pretty cool.

Since the upgrade, the board is much slower to respond.  By "slower", I mean that I click on a topic, and I just wait...and wait...and wait...until my patience times out and I click the stop in the browser.  Then, if I click exactly the same topic again, it pops right up.

FWIW, I read the board using the "show unread topics" and "first unread message" links.

The behavior appears to be independent of browser (Chrome vs. Firefox vs. Safari), or OS (Linux vs. Mac vs. Windows) or my location (work vs. home vs. AT&T 3G).
