if you got punched in the face for an hour straight i don't think you'd remember much of any thing.
...already looking forward to next weekend.

Bumpy as a motha!

If anyone witnessed the Miller crash than you know how awesome that guy can be after an explosion like that! 1st baby.

It hurt so bad today, even with the DNF because of the flat i got right before my last lap-which I got lapped on after my flat. It's CX SEASON!

Thank you to all who helped. It was a truly brutal course!

I'm just curious with all the comments about the "bumpy" course if any of the folks have ever been on a mountain bike before? If you think you were "shaked and baked" by the cross course at Ft. Bellfontaine, try a lap or two on a hard tail 29er at Burnin at the Bluff. You'll spend the next couple days thinking Manny Pacquiao used you as his personal beeatch for kidney punch practice.

it was a battle of the bikes, literally, like, whose bike would survive till the end without a mechanical. I kept passing guys walking their broken bikes, C race, seemed like 5 or 6. :o   :) . . . which leads me to believe cx is an evil plot by bicycle shop owners to break our bikes so we have to buy more stuff. :D

no, seriously, great course, great time, great competition, great weather, and most importantly a great workout to keep the winter blubber at bay, sort of. :)

I think some of it is about expectations. I expect single track and other off-road trails to be bumpy. My expectations for CX courses are somewhat smoother terrain. I have a full suspension 29'er and have not doubts I would have had more fun yesterday on that bike (albeit probably with slower lap splits) than on my CX bike. I don't mind bumpy when I have the right tool for the job. For me and my old bones, a CX bike was not the right tool for the job yesterday. YMMV.... B)

Couldn’t agree more!! And who will forget Johnny's sick and twisted mind to be placing those barriers on an uphill. For those of us with short legs...each lap seemed the barriers got taller and taller. Great race...great times!!!

I did do the race on a Full Sus 29er, and it was beneficial on the bumpy sections for sure, but I still lost time coming out of every corner, and on the pavement, so I think a CX bike was def. the way to go, and just suck it up!

All people who set up a cx race course should have to pre-ride the course or they don't get to set up the courses anymore. If they set up a mean course that breaks bikes rather than showcasing the true spirit of cx, they should be forced to ride the course sans chamois. IMHO

While I loved the flow of the course this weekend and thought the hills were a nice touch, the bumps (ditches) were just brutal. I found myself wondering whether this same course would have even been considered as a possible venue for the Gateway Cross Cup when the pros were here. I'm pretty sure the answer would be a resounding no for several reasons, but largely due to the poor surface. Not that any of us Bubba racers are pros (at least I'm not), but I'd still like to think we should get somewhat equal consideration.
Having said that, the people in charge of all that is Bubba put no less effort into course setup, registration, etc, than any other weekend, so I'll still be the first one to give them much due credit and thanks for that. In addition, it could be the issue that those who are in charge of Fort Belle Fontaine may have allowed that area to be used and nothing else, so it could have been completely out of their hands. Either way, I'll be back for more fun the rest of the season.

This is easy. If you don't like the courses either come out and help design and set up a course or just don't race them! Take your crying ass out to KC or Chicago if Bubba courses are beneath you.

EDIT: I'm editing this because with time to look back it's occurred to me that I lashed out unnecessarily and chose my words and tone poorly. I still maintain that the post about the course designers "not getting to set up the courses anymore" and "mean courses" is silly, but I should have chosen my words better. I just feel like we had a similar thread complaining about course design around this time last year; moreover, it's been dry and the ground is hard. The course designers can't do anything about that; either we race on the terrain we have or we sit around and wait until we get some rain or the ground magically softens. Yes, the course was bumpy, but we have to take the good with the bad and enjoy it as a dynamic of the racing.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I'm not going to deny anyone, but I do think it's poor form to talk about course design as if it's an injustice to you if the course is too bumpy/open/technical/smooth/wet/dry/whatever.

+1 and Amen. If you don't like the course, don't race it. Last time I checked, no one is putting a gun to anyone's head forcing them to race on any given day on any given course. You don't like the bumps--you don't like the climbs, you want to race on "pro courses"--simple, become a pro. Otherwise, HTFU, buckle up your chin strap and race!

I certainly didnt name the post what I did to start a pissing match. I named it what I did only stating the obvious. And for the record I have done countless laps at the bluffs, and I think 1 hour on the CX course sunday beat you up more than 1 hour at CB on a MTB - IMO. The two shouldnt even be compaired to one another.

I liked the course Sunday. It was a hard/fun race.
