Hopefully the Mack rider is O.K. He smacked his head hard enough to shatter his glasses. Now I know what they mean when they say things look like thay are happening in SLO MO.

I didn't see the crash, but the aftermath was definitely ugly.  Hopefully the injuries aren't too bad in the end and everyone involved recovers speedily.

I hope someone on the MACK team keeps us up to date..I think his name was Randy Gillispie but its all a blur in what I was telling the paramedics.  Definitely worst crash injury I've seen and would have preferred not to see it.

Saw on Facebook from a friend of the family: Randy is unconscious but apparently responding to pain...he has bleeding on the brain and is in ICU recovering from today's surgery.

Keep up the prayers for him then. Hopefully those said at the beginning of the 1/2/3 help.

We were bantering back and forth during the race and he (Randy?) was riding a great race near the front the whole time.  From one Clydesdale to another, I am definitely shaken to the core by this crash. Was not able to clearly see what happened (maybe a pedal or hand slip during the final sprint) but not important now.  Really, truly hope he comes out of this OK.... thoughts and prayers for him, his family and team.

AMEN!

I heard there were two guys that went down that had to be carried off.  What is the status of the other racer?

I'm not 100% sure it was the same guy, but I think the first guy who went down was back watching the end of the Pro race. I was standing next to a guy in a blue jersey with his arm in a sling, and I just kind of assumed that it was the fellow. I'm curious what happened to the pedestrian who plowed into him.

Was the pedestrian the root cause?

I was standing at the start/finish line and just happened to look up and catch the whole thing. A pedestrian in red came flying into the road and was just clobbered by a dropped racer in blue, coming around the corner quickly. Both bodies flew several feet in the same direction, which lead me to believe that the pedestrian was hit head-on by the rider. Someone who was closer probably has a better account.

the pedestrian was waved through by a course marshall.  She had scrapes and gash on chin that will need stitches.  Walked to the car and was driven to hospital by her mother.

Paul, the rider in blue, told me he never saw the woman he hit. He said it was a child directly in his path that he'd done everything he could to avoid. Yes, that was him with his arm in a sling at the P123 race

Course marshalls are volunteers and for what its worth it was not a woman on that corner.
