Is the MCT Confluence Trail open/rideable from Alton heading south?  I have an out-of-state friend coming in later this week and we wanted to do an easy (flat), 20mi ride on Friday.  Plus he wants to ride in Illinois so that he can check another State off his ride list.  We'll be on road bikes so we would prefer not to ride through water or across gravel.

When I rode the trail last Thursday, a section of trail was closed near Wood River Creek due to the river flooding over the trail. You could detour by getting off and riding the berm highway for a mile or two from the lock and dam to the other side of the creek if you wanted to. And the trail south of the Lewis & Clark State Historic Site is gravel for a while on the levee. But there are plenty of other rideable trails in the area if you don't mind starting from a different location. Keep in mind it's pretty much always windy in one way or another when you're riding the Confluence trail on top of the levee.
