Here is some news for all of you who do the "Covered Bridge" route or simply include Old Lemay Ferry on your JeffCo route(s).  Old Lemay Ferry immediately South of Old Hwy M (next to firehouse)will close on April 12.  The bridge at that location is being replaced with a new bridge.  According to the firemen Old Lemay Ferry is scheduled to be closed for 90 days.  So plan accordingly.

Thanks for the warning.  I wonder if access to southbound Old Lemay will be available from New Hwy M... I guess one could still start further South on Old Lemay, and do a "turn around" route when getting to that point.

Based on the bridge location, I think it will be possible to get onto New M from Northbound Lemay Ferry, and go West a mile or two, to the location where Old M intersects New M.  Then you can get back onto Old M and head East towards Barnhart/Imperial/etc.  By adding a couple of relatively flat miles, you should be able to get around the discontinuity which will be placed in Old Lemay.

disclaimer (this route should work both directions).

The other option if you want to stay off New Hwy M is to take Moss Hollow/Upper Moss Hollow from Old Hwy M (a couple miles east of Old Lemay).  It meets up with Old Lemay again at the top of the first hill north of the Covered Bridge.

That's my normal route on the way out.  Old Hwy M -> Moss Hollow -> Upper Moss Hollow -> Marble Springs -> Rice Rd.  A right on Rice takes you to Old Lemay Ferry at the top of the first climb when going North on Old Lemay ferry from the covered bridge.  A left on Rice Rd down to either Hensley or Johnston is perhaps the most fun that you can possible have on a road bike.

Yep, that would work as long as you are willing to ride on new Hwy M.  BTW, while taking it the opposite direction South on Old Lemay Ferry -> West Old M -> East New M you might want to try a slight detour. Before heading back East on New M go ahead and pass under new M on old M and ride old M up to old Hwy 21.  That will turn your "relatively" flat ride into a much hillier one.

Rode through Old Lemay Ferry & Old Hwy M this morning.  The road closure has been pushed back a week to Tuesday, April 19.
