Just in case you are wondering... the Missouri Tourism facebook page is allowing wall posts again.  Be sure to stop by and leave them a little love note to let them know we haven't forgotten about them.

Well, that didn't take long... after a few quick posts about the ToM, they've once again disabled wall posts.

They are enabled. But I noticed that any comment I make that mentions the Tour of Missouri and Jay Nixon gets deleted/censored.

Keep letting them know what you think.

I was able to post the following this evening:

Well...Missouri's loss is Colorado's gain. Colorado is in the final stages of planning for a stage race that will take over the ToM's slot in the pro race calender:
http://velonews.comp...-in-2011_132118

That means hundreds of thousands of people will travel to Colorado instead of Missouri and spend millions of dollars on food, gas, restaurants, rental cars, hotels, souveniers, etc...Heck, the economy is SO GOOD, Missouri really didn't need that money, did we, Govenor Nixon?

We'll see how long it takes for them to delete it....

They are back at it over at the MOTourism facebook page.  I post a little comment about how they were either ignorant of the complexities of the International Cycling Union calendar, or they knew exactly what they were doing.  Colorado has snapped up the calendar slot in September, Tour de Georgia hopes to be back in April 2011, so the ToM is most likely dead for all time.

The Tour of GA said that in '09 and '10, too.  That only makes the case for ToM likely being gone.  There might be something to replace it though.

Yes....I'm still bugging the people on the Missouri Tourism Facebook Page....but I did finally get someone who used to work for the division to respond...

Jeff Wohlt Dan, I hear ya. The state supports the CVBs and Chambers and these are the folks with the prison tour and other events...just FYI. I think what most do not understand is that Mo is not a destination for global visitors. Yes, we do get some, as any state does but Mo is a drive destination and 90% of visitors come from surrounding states. These folks are the bread and butter of the many miliions the state brings in as tax revenues. If MDT slows the advertising in these markets then we are really hurting the revenues. Missouri has so much to offer those folks. Want to really raise hell then tell the Reps and Senators they are breaking a statute by not funding the division. The division should be at 28 million for this budget yet they just take it away....if the division had the funding that it is suppose to have I can assure you the race would have gone on. Believe me...the Governor needs all he can get to keep MO people happy as he may not see another term when it comes times to vote. If he loses then so does the tourism director and many other department heads. One reason I do not agree with appointed positions...tourism was never an appointed position until the last couple. The director was always hired by the tourism commission based on their knowledge of marketing and running a business. MDT lost that and it will continue to become a polictical position...this is never good as most just use it as a platform to help themselves or their leader so they can keep a job.
