I think this petition was in the double digits when I signed it. Here we are a few days later and it's at 1680.

1680???

Really, we can do better than that. We really have to, don't we?
Click it and show your support.
Please. It can't hurt.

Agreed.  Were I Katie Steele Danner or Jay Nixon, I would look at that number and feel confident that I was making the right decision in withholding the funds for the race.

I imagine in these days of "dangerous innernets" some people are wary about signing-up on an unofficial-looking, 3rd party "petition site".  I would think our politicians would look for better proof than this, but the fact that it's dragged on this long should indicate just how out-of-touch they are.

Note: I'm not addressing E-Lee here, just elaborating on a very good point.

This was high on my list of reasons for bumping the thread and lending support to it. I didn't have to do more than verify my email address to 'sign' it. To me that seemed reasonable way to show that the collected 'signatures' were real enough.

and nothing at all (dangerous or otherwise) has happened as a result.   B)

I say do what you can do. It's an opportunity to show support. It's free. It's harmless. Yes, it may mean nothing in the end. But what if it does?

I agree, not worried about it personally but some may be.  I emailed the Gov and the Tourism director and signed the petition.  I guess their thinking is if we can't be known for the #2 race in the country, at least we still we're still #1 in meth labs and puppy mills.

I sat down to watch the Tour of California last night and all I could think of was what a good thing we have here and how it's slipping through our fingers.

I agree.  Viewing one stage on VS would be enough, in my opinion, to go forth with the funding.  The fantastic scenery, comments about local culture, and massive amount of viewers should make this an easy decision.

It's a multi day commercial for the beauty that is our state.

Does VS televise the ToM live or even with daily recaps?  I've always been working the ToM, so I can honestly say I've never tried to catch it on TV.

Last year, Versus did half-hour recap shows after each day's stage. Universal Sports did live streaming video, along with other outlets, including the ToM website. Fox Sports Midwest and Fox Sports Kansas City also aired the recap shows that appeared on Versus.

If I remember correctly, the Universal Sports broadcast had short segments about some of the communities or attractions along the stage routes.

It almost made me sick to watch the Tour of California yesterday afternoon. I was furious. How could the state of Missouri politicians shut down a spectacular event like this? This has all been very disappointing.

Governor Turd was in the TV booth at the Cardinals' game last night touting our state's greatest tourism destinations.  Such as Branson.  I bet a TT there might showcase that town...like it did a few years ago.

Well, there you go. Find a way to sell tickets to the TOM so the politicians can make some tax money and they will be all in.

Did you guys read any of the comments on the Jefferson City News Tribune's comment section when the TOM came up? There's an overwhelming number of nay saying a-holes who comment on that forum. It's embarrassing for people like me who live here.

Bob, I don't think that's confined to Jeff City.  *EVERY* newspaper web site that permits comments has a similar bunch of naysayer-a-holes who comment.  We have it here for the P-D, and I've read the for the NYT, the Nashville newspaper, and the Washington Post.
