This was just posted to the ToM website.  With the state seeing an increase of over 30% in dollars spent in "the worst economic time since the great depression", I want to see that knucklehead Nixon justify cancelling the investment for the state for 2010.  I would have to think that all of the lodging taxes, payroll taxes, sales taxes, gas taxes, etc. would more than pay for the $1.5M the state invested in the race.

walt, you know all those numbers are made up by republicans acting as IFM Sport workers.  Yeah its nice to see that the event has grown.  I spent my few hundred by traveling and staying in hotels and eating out.

I agree.  But it will be interesting if it becomes an issue again in the election.  Last time, "Bashing the Tour" didn't work for Kinders opponent Sam Page.  I wonder if Nixon will try the same tactic.

The best outcome would be for private sponsorship, but doubtful unless the economy turns around.  Also difficult for the state to justify the expense when people are really suffering.

Yea but assuming about an 8% sales tax (more for hotel, gas, etc)they are still seeing 3 million come back to them... which would mean about a 100% profit.Sometimes you have to spend a little to earn a lot.

Way to go go-jackets, you remember Economics 101.  Unfortunately, most of our elected officials and a large portion of the general public failed this course.  You and I, are smart enough to understand that it is good to make a small investment and realize a 100% return in just a matter of a month or so.

Carefull what you ask for Walt.  This just in, it looks like Nixon is trying to torpedo the race by investigating Medalists operating proceedures and accounting practices.  Seems as though the knuckelhead is trying to find justification to cancel the event by first discrediting the organization.  As soon as he has built a case against the organizers he will use this as his justification to kill the event.  I heard this on the radio and found this artical.  Don't worry, he will find a way to kill it.  I would bash Nixon further but he's doing a good enough job on his own. http://ozarksfirst.c...ext/?cid=194071

Funny quote in November issue of Cycle Sport America (p. 68):
"...But we also found out that the race's future is uncertain, and it is being used as a political football, despite huge and enthusiastic crowds."

As if cycling doesn't have enough problems (*cough* doping *cough*), the last thing the sport needs is being used in political tug- of- war!
